ANOTHER project which has already begun construction – the long-awaited redevelopment of Páirc Uí Chaoimh will take two years to complete with a May 2017 opening date being targeted by the Cork County GAA Board.
The €70m project will involve the demolition of the southern stand and the construction of a new modern facility as well as upgrades to the other stand and terraces. The capacity of the stadium will be increased slightly to 45,000.
A new all-weather pitch will be located to the south of the stadium, on the former Showgrounds’ land. Floodlights will also be added to both pitches.
As well as hosting big games and concerts a redeveloped Páirc Uí Chaoimh will form part of Ireland’s bid to secure the Rugby World Cup 2023.
